Android is KING!

Those of you who have read BHT in the past probably have picked up on my subtle affinity towards Android devices... Ok it's not really subtle, I really don't like Apple "i-devices" that much and lean towards Android pretty much unanimously. Though I doubt I'd switch, Windows Phone 8 and their tablet offerings definitely look interesting and I hope RIM can make a comeback with BB10 (whole other future post I guess).

As an Android-lover there hasn't been a more exciting time than now in my opinion. I'd almost go as far as to claim 2013 as the year of the little green robot. In previous years I feel like it was at least arguable which OS/platform was better but that time has come to an end! I'm declaring Android the champ! Now there's alot of different ways you could take this debate and I'm not saying that an iPhone or iPad isn't the best device for some people; but for the first time since Android came out I feel that I can recommend at least one or two excellent Android phones on each carrier to people without fear that it will not give the end user problems. For the first time that regardless of your tech-ability level I am confident that there are Android options that will absolutely work for you and work well; consistently.

Furthermore, things look like they are getting better and it's happening faster and faster. Google has done an excellent job with UI improvements and streamlining the Playstore. They've released Google Play Games to clean up and organize the gaming experience. Google and Android have made moves to start invading the living room more and more with gaming and entertainment and Google Music and its All Access subscription has become one of my favorite features, something I can't see going with out now.

On the hardware side Google Glass is expected in 2014 and a Google smartwatch is rumored for the end of this year. We should also be seeing a new Nexus phone and Nexus 10 tablet to accompany the recently revamped Nexus 7. Chromecast, Google's budget TV media streaming device, once back in stock is likely to really open up the living room entertainment arena for Google and there are rumors of an upcoming game console as well.

Yes, 2013 has been a solid year for Google with it dominating or moving into a position of imminent dominance in almost all metrics from market share, app offerings, and more. Even better it looks like Google and Android are still gaining steam and are poised for another great year in 2014. It's a good time to be on #teamandroid!

Root Nexus Tablet With One Click Root

Unzip the file that you downloaded previously based on your device.
Turn off the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 and switch it on in Fastboot mode by pressing the Device Off Vol Up + Vol Down + Power Button.
Connect your Nexus to the PC via USB, and you must make sure have previously installed the Driver.
Open the Command Prompt or Terminal and go to the folder where you unzipped the files previously downloaded.
Type the following command depending on your operating system:

Windows: Run-root windows.bat
Linux: chmod + x root-linux.sh
Run root-linux.sh
MAC: chmod + x root-mac.sh
Run root-mac.sh

Finish, it is easy enough right? Simple, fast and easy. And now, you have the privileges to handle applications that require root permissions on your Nexus 4, Nexus and Nexus 7 and 10 without any problems.

Easy Tutorial Manual Update Nexus 4 To Android 4.2.2

After all of the other devices of the Nexus, Finally the Nexus 4 receives the Android 4.2.2 update officially via OTA. In this post you can find how to update it manually if you can't find any update notification on your phone. The new improvement to the new version of the operating system you can read on my previous post : New Feature on Android 4.2.2 .

Besides the classic and new improvements in Android 4.2.2, in particular for the Nexus 4 this update removes the LTE network, actaully this smartphone was equipped with radio, so was capable to connect with LTE network. Until Android 4.2.1, though it was possible to enable LTE connectivity by following the simple steps, so Google decided to removes the LTE network with this new update.

To check for new updates, simply go into the Settings of your smartphone, select Phone Info and system updates. In case there be notified any update, you can follow the Guide to force the OTA update. How to Force OTA update on nexus device

If after several attempts you can't find any updates notification and want to update your Nexus 4 to Android 4.2.2, then you can follow the step by step guide in below.

How to manually update Nexus 4 to Android 4.2.2

Requirements
Android JOP40D 4.2.1

For those who have a Custom Recovery

Download the update file : download JOP40d
copy the file in the memory of Nexus 4
go to recovery
Select "install zip from sd card" and then "choose zip from sd card"
Choose the file you just copied, and confirm
wait until the end of the installation and reboot

Update to android 4.2.2 with Recovery Stock (via ADB)

Download the update file : download android 4.2.2 JOP40d
You must have installed the ADB (download ADB)
copy the update file in ADB
turn off the nexus 4 and start it by pressing and holding the Volume down button
then fastboot menu will appear and on the start button, press and hold the Volume up key until you see the Recovery menu
Now you can leave the Volume up button and press the Power button to enter in Recovery
Now you will see an Android with exclamation point and you must press the Volume keys on + Power
Select "apply update from adb"
connect your nexus to pc with USB cable
Open a command prompt and go to the folder where you placed the update file
type the following command:
adb Sideloading de8b8d101614.signed-occam-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.de8b8d10.zip
at this point you will see a progress bar that will send the update on nexus
now the update process will start
When finished, restart

How To Unlock Nexus 4 Bootloader Also Guide to Relock

If you have just bought Nexus 4 from Playstore then you need to unlock the bootloader first if you want to customize it, you can find the tutorial on this post. The procedure is quite similar with previous Nexus device, and requires that you have PC or laptop have installed android SDK, and correctly installed USB drivers for the Nexus 4.this perfect and more userfriendly

The new Nexus 4 is pushed by the last generation of processors of Qualcomm quadcore at a frequency of 1.5 GHz and supported by excellent 320 Adreno graphics processor. Also perfect for play, except for the basic version comes with 8 GB of internal memory is not expandable. Though for many this may be more than enough, thanks to the many available cloud services, the same does not apply to anyone who stores a lot of music, photos and, as said before, games.
Equipped with Good 8 megapixel camera, and even with the power of the speaker, although when the phone is placed on a surface is heavily muffled volume. Ok now lets continue to the Nexus 4 unlock bootloader process

Requirements

Nexus 4 Driver for Windows (if not autodetected) then install it first

Android SDK

How To Unlock Nexus $ Bootloader

Enable USB Debugging by Developer > Settings (if you don't see this option, click 7 times on Info > Build number)
After you have download the fastboot, Extract the zip file and place it in a folder called ‘Fastboot’. ThenSave it on your PC or laptop desktop screen.
Connect your Nexus 4 to your PC via USB (and possibly installing drivers if required)
Restart your LG Google Nexus 4. Boot it into Fastboot mode by press at the same time the Volume down and Power button. When the appeart the “start” text on thescreen, release the buttons.
Then enter to the ‘fasboot’ folder. Press SHIFT button on your keyboard and at the same time you have to right click on the white space of the Fastboot folder. Choose ‘open command window here’ from the menu option
Then enter the command below to start the unlock bootloader process on your nexus 4
fastboot devices : this should detect your device ID, if don't detect you must re install the driver
fastboot oem unlock : this will unlock the bootloader
Then after finish your device will restart and boot into normal mode

If you want to relock the bootloader its easy just change the fastboot oem unlock to : fastboot oem lock.
Needless to remind you that unlocking the bootloader will void warranty officially. Done so at your own risk.

How To Improve LG Nexus 4 Camera Quality

Although not officially in Italy, the Google LG Nexus 4 does talk a lot about itself even as far as for the modding development. It certainly won't have the same camera of his brother LG Optimus G, but having a Nexus 4 is very likely that we could do something to improve the quality of video recording. So at this post i will share some a good tips for improve Google Nexus 4 Camera. look great

It has recently been found a xml file that would increase the video framerate, which will make the records more fluid but heavier at the same time for what will be its size in memory. However, to modify this file you must have root permissions. So before we start the modding process if you haven't root your nexus you can read my post about how to root nexus 4

In addition to this frame rate settings, you can also change other settings such as frame size, quality, number of audio channels, etc.

How To Improve Photo Quality On Nexus 4

Here's how you can perform this modding to improve your nexus 4 camera quality:

Download an app to browse files (like root explorer or es file explorer, that file is free) you can download it from google play.
Head in the /system/etc folder;
Make sure the directory is mounted as writable (RW);
Look for the media_profiles.xml file and open it with a text-file editor (es file explorer has one built-in);
Once opened, you should find yourself with this text:
quality EncoderProfile < = "1080p" fileFormat = "mp4" duration = "30" >
< Video codec = "h264" bitRate = 12000000 " width = "1920" height = "1080" frameRate = "30"/>< Audio codec = "aac" bitRate = "96000" sampleRate = "48000" channels = "1"/>
Change the bitRate from 12000000 to 20000000 (2 followed by 7 zeroes);
Save and reboot.
With this, you should have a 20 Mbit encoding which is definitely better than one of 12Mbit.

If you do not want to take part in this operation, there is however an application should perform a similar work, which you can download it directly from google play.
